Beautiful, healthy skin is the fruit of consistent skincare, but most of us don’t have the time (or money) to give ourselves daily facials. Lucky for you, there are some simple but effective everyday DIY beauty recipes that you can perform before bedtime and leave your face feeling radiant and refreshed in the morning.
Skincare is one of the most important aspects of making yourself look and feel your best. To many people, dropping money on skincare products seems completely unnecessary because it always theoretically sounds like something that can be done at home. But pro skincare isn’t about being cheap, since there are plenty of ways to create cleansers and moisturizers that can take your skin from good to great.
That’s why I want to share these 11 easy DIY skincare recipes for glowing, healthy skin with you so that you can have great skin (and spend less on treatments) without all the hassle.
1. Rosewater Toner
Rosewater is a gentle toner that makes skin soft and smooth. It’s also great for calming down redness and irritation, so it’s ideal for sensitive skin types. To make your own rosewater toner, add one cup of water to one teaspoon of rosewater and shake until mixed thoroughly.
2. Aloe Vera Face Mask
Aloe vera is a natural skincare ingredient that has been used for centuries to treat skin ailments and promote new skin cell growth. It’s also a great moisturizer that can help soothe sunburns and other types of skin irritation.
To make an aloe vera face mask, simply combine 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel with 1 teaspoon of glycerin or honey. If your skin is dry or very sensitive, try adding 1 teaspoon of olive oil instead. Mix well until you get a smooth paste and apply to your face for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
3. Coconut Oil Cleanser
Coconut oil is an excellent cleanser because it gently melts away makeup without stripping your skin’s natural oils. To make this DIY cleanser, add two tablespoons of coconut oil to two tablespoons of baking soda in a small bowl.
Mix together until the mixture becomes powdery (it will become very thick). Wet your face with warm water before applying the cleanser in circular motions with clean hands or a washcloth until all makeup has been removed from your face.
4. Exfoliating Baking Soda Foot Soak
This DIY foot soak is a great way to cleanse away any dead skin cells and impurities from your feet. The baking soda gently removes dirt and oil, while the Epsom salt provides extra exfoliation power.
Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with a gallon of warm water and soak your feet in the mixture for 10 minutes.
5. Acne-Fighting Tea Leaves Face Toner
Tea leaves are loaded with antioxidants that fight free radicals and help reduce inflammation caused by blemishes. They also soothe irritated skin by reducing redness and swelling caused by acne.
For an even more mild treatment that’s still effective at reducing acne-causing bacteria and fighting aging signs of hyperpigmentation (age spots), add fresh rosemary leaves or basil leaves to a batch of plain green tea.
- 1 teaspoon peppermint tea leaves
- 4 teaspoons white tea leaves
- ½ cup boiled distilled water
2 drops of lavender oil
Add all ingredients to a small glass jar with a lid, shake well, and apply to your face as needed after washing your face in the morning or evening.
6. Detoxifying Rice Ginger Body Scrub
Rice is an excellent source of cleansing power, just one cup has eight grams of fiber, but it also contains natural enzymes that help remove dirt from the skin, including dead skin cells, sebum (the oil produced by our glands), and other toxins that accumulate on our bodies over time.
- ½ cup of blended ground rice
- ½ cup coconut milk
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1½ tablespoon ground ginger
Mix together to form a paste. Use your hands and rub the mixture all over in a circular motion. After for few minutes, the scrub will clean the entire body.
7. Oatmeal Face Mask
Oats have long been used in natural skincare recipes because they are rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish the skin while exfoliating dead skin cells at the same time. Plus, they feel great on your face.
Simply grind up some oats in a food processor or blender until they become a fine powder, then add any other ingredients you like (see below). Add enough water to make it into a paste and apply to your face for 10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
8. Brightening Blueberry Face Mask
Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants that can help brighten dull complexions, combat free radicals and reduce fine lines and wrinkles over time. The vitamin C found in blueberries also helps strengthen collagen production, which helps keep your skin looking youthful longer (and makes it easier for you to resist picking at zits).
This mask makes your complexion look healthier instantly and will continue working overtime as you wear it throughout the day.
9. Papaya face mask
If you’ve been looking for a DIY skincare recipe that’s easy to make, the papaya face mask is it. Papayas are rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene, which are great for keeping your skin glowing and smooth. This mask will help nourish your skin while helping it to repair itself from years of damage.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup raw honey
- 1 ripe papaya, peeled and cubed
